What's up doc?

Well, already I'm behind on my planned "keep the blog up to date" mission. Damnit.

Well, if you look to the right, you should see I have been reading lots of Dune. I'm currently reading Chapter House Dune on the train to and from work. That's the last of Frank Herbert's Dune books and the rest are slaughtered by his son, Brian Herbert, and Kevin J Anderson who should be served an Anti-Literature Behaviour Order.

I also made a promise that I wouldn't start any more books until I had completed Chapter House, The God Delusion (currently bedtime reading if I get a chance) and a book on Plagiarism. So that completely explains why I ordered more Frank Herbert (non-Dune) books from e-bay and borrowed 11 volumes of Death Note (only read first volume, but it's the first Manga I've liked 8-). Must... be... disciplined...

On Sunday I will be cooking for my parents. Mum's doing work for a course and I haven't cooked a roast for a while so I volunteered. So, on Saturday, I'm hitting the Manchester Farmers' Market (and Warrington market if necessary) for a nice game bird or joint for that.

I monitor a Torchwood slash community (If you don't know, you don't need to know) but don't usually get round to actually reading any of the stories. The other day they asked about the likelihood of a workplace as varied as Torchwood in the real world. I had a hankering for statistics. But I hate statistics. Honestly. I even dragged out my Bayesian Networks book. Don't worry, I'm all cured now...

On the subject of Torchwood, last week was sublimely ridiculous (as I pointed out on Twitter - see right). James Marsters (let's be honest, Spike!) fit in perfectly. They really pulled it off - I'm not normally a fan of the silly episodes - give me dark Torchwood any day, but this one worked. I'm looking forward to tonight's episode.

There are other things, but I'll have to get round to them later as they're trickier subjects.

Alex
