French Films

I've just been watching Un Jour D'Ete (One Day In Summer) so you're about to get a stream of thoughts about French Film (or at least the French Film I've seen which is fairly restricted to Queer French Film).

Firstly, nothing happens in them. And yet I'm utterly captivated.

Then, there's always cute lead guys.

But that's not my reason for liking them. They're like a comfort food - making me feel warm inside.

Although there are cute lead guys, they all bloody smoke. Every character in French Film seems to smoke. All the time. Not in a "oh, he's smoking he must be a rebel" kinda way - it's just presented as part of French life that you start smoking about the age of ten.

Finally, I wish subtitles could convey more. I know the changes in English voice which denote mood or where the stress in a sentence can change the meaning (introducing sarcasm etc.). But for foreign languages, I don't, and subtitles cannot present that very well. I guess it'd be better to say I need to know some foreign languages. Which is something I keep saying but never do anything about.
