Mother's Day

So, today was Mother's Day. My mum had her parents over for a trip to see The Reduced Shakespeare Company do The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) and I went along as well. Not sure it was as good as the last couple of times. There have been some changes which were very funny, but they seemed to lose some stuff just before the interval. Also, one of the actors didn't seem able to project his voice very well. Which was great when he was behind a small puppet stage 8-).

Today, I offered to do the dinner. I don't often get a chance to cook for a group. I went to the Farmers' Market in Manchester last weekend and bought a Stuffed Pork Fillet from Bowland Outdoor Reared Pork, Beef and Lamb. It wasn't cheap, but it was so good. We're talking a pork fillet, stuffed with sausagemeat and wrapped in bacon. All of this, outdoor reared, gorgeous, top notch meat. We tried a little bit whilst carving and were blown away by it. I swear I had nothing to do with it, I just bunged it in the oven, no preparation at all.

To go with it, roast potatoes, homey glazed carrots, leeks, onions, garlic, pepper, parsnips, steamed peas, sweetcorn, carrots, bean, mini corn on the cob things and mash potato. Topped of of course with some gravy and some apple sauce. It all worked, it all was ready at the right time. It was how a roast should be done.

And we finished off with a very nice Sticky Toffee Pudding which I also picked up from the Farmers' Market.

Just thought I'd share my enthusiasm and blow my own trumpet.
