Last night was Emma's birthday. The Hotpots were playing to celebrate WA1's (the venue) 5th birthday so we went to see them again. We started with a meal in Andalucia, a quick sortie to Friar's Court waiting for others to turn up before arriving at WA1 for about half nine.
When we got to the right floor (not the one with sofas) the first support band was already playing. Now, they weren't bad like Flynn were, but they were pretty dreary. The second band (mumble mumble somethingorother) were good, bit faster, incomprehensible lead singer, equipment failure, but enjoyable enough.
Then The 66 came on. And we went WOW. The recordings on their myspace don't quite do justice (but definately check out Firefly on the player and the video for Bordello) and don't include all the songs they did. But these are a band to watch.
And go and see again. They and Exile Parade (another Warrington band who I enjoyed at d:percussion last year) are supporting The Virginmarys in one of the Manchester Academy venues on 7th March. Tickets were £6 through paypal from The 66's myspace and I've ordered mine already. It comes with a free CD. If anyone else wants to come, get a ticket and come along.
So, I spent half the night dancing, didn't get to bed until gone half two and am was awake at 8. And I feel the best I have in a while. I soooo need to organise that trip to Poptastic I keep promising myself.
