Political Stuff

I get home today and see a yellowy envelope face down on the floor. I recognise it - I've had two before. Picking it up and turning it over confirms it's from the my concerns over MPs expenses and Freedom of Information sent on 21st January? Or is it my comments on the Digital Britain report sent on Wednesday (10th February)?

The eager excitement (that can only come when a geek gets snail mail) built up as I opened it to find two paragraphs advising that she had passed on my concerns about the Digital Britain report to the relevant minister and would get back to me when she gets a reply.

I can't complain as this is what I'd asked of her.

Still no response re. expenses though. For what it's worth, I sent the Digital Britain by post (I used fancy things like bullet points and headers) but the expenses thing through WriteToThem (which is an excellent service, but my MP seems to be ignoring).

In non-MP response news. I think I'm pretty much decided on going to the Manchester spin off of the Convention on Modern Liberty. I've emailed checking there's still space for me to come but not heard back. Unless I hear back negatively, I'll be going. I urge you to consider coming along too. With the International Commission of Jurists saying terror laws are infringing our civil liberties, the British Association of Airline Pilots saying no to compulsory ID cards and Scotland too there is a feeling of hope that the country may not be walking blindly any more. We may be able to stand strong and say enough is enough. But it only works if enough stand up and shout.

(and we don't let it become another bloody SWP front)

EDIT - How can I forget to mention the Internet Blackout campaign? This is being organised by a New Zealand group to protest a section of law that's being debated which would force ISPs to disconnect people based on mere accusations of copyright infringement. Guilt by accusation is not something we should be entertaining in any country and given the way our own government behaves, I wouldn't be surprised to see it attempted here soon.
