Dear Noel and Julien,
I love The Mighty Boosh. I got into it in series one. I have since brought the DVDs and the CDs of the radio show. Lacking a time machine I am however unable to experience early Boosh at the Edinburgh Festival. I did get to see you on your last tour when you came to Warrington and did a fantastic show (now Leeds and sheepshagger are permanently linked in my mind). I was worried when you left the Zooniverse for series two, but it was a triumph. Series three equally good.
Last night on the other hand. What happened? Where was The Mighty Boosh we know and love? Let's start at the start. Being able to get tickets in the pre-sales from what seems to be your official merchandising partner, I was disappointed to find when they arrived that I was in the upper tier at the back. Where I was I could hardly see a damn thing.
But that wouldn't have gotten a mention had the show itself been able to distract me with it's brilliance. Unfortunately it failed. The thing about the Boosh is that it tells stories. Yes, there are asides. Yes, the warm up sketches offered in the last tour were excellent (Bollo auditioning for King Kong was truly hilarious). Last night's "cabaret" style just failed. The sketches weren't funny. There was no story. It felt like a compilation of what you thought the fans would like and forgot to make it into a Mighty Boosh Show which is what this fan certainly wanted.
And you forgot Old Gregg.
Please, if this is the style for series four, can it. Can it now!
Yours in disappointment,
Alex Lambert
Worried Fan
